Reversed Polarity

I once accidentally shorted the positive and negative poles, and then it broken.

Unfortunately, the MAX17502EATB+T (DC to DC converter) is not protected against reverse polarity.
Your friend could replace this component and hope the failure stopped at the DC/DC.
