Hi,
My name is Ram. I am working on qudraped robot project. We are using ODRI led foot sensor mechanism for foot contact detection. We have build the model and we are facing activation issues. I am thinking its mostly because of Silicone tube we are using inside the foot. I really appreciate if you can share exact material type of the Silicone tube which you are using for the project. Thank you and looking forward for the help.
Hi Ram,
o.k. - what’s your issue exactly?
We’re using a Shore A60 hardness silicone tube (ID 4mm / OD 6mm) - ordered from here.
I use a thin metal wire to keep the tube segments in place as shown in the picture.
Does that help?
Best. Felix
Hi @fgrimminger , Thanks for the help. It solved our issue. The problem was because we are silicon pipe with higher hardness. The sensor wasn’t working properly. I mean there are lot of false positive and false negatives. But, anyway, it solved now. Thank you.
And also, I am wondering about durability and life of this sensor. From your experience, can you share how long this sensor gonna last with out any major problems.
Thank you
Hi @RamCharanThota,
o.k. - I’m glad that you were able to solve the issue.
We used the foot sensor on our quadrupeds for about two years.
In the beginning we used feet that were printed on our inhouse Projet printer.
This material is pretty brittle - so we did break a couple of feet when the robot hit the ground really violently.
To avoid those problems we later switched to a different material with better impact resistance from a external 3d printing service (Accura Extreme Grey from 3D Systems).
We haven’t had any other issues with the foot sensors.
Best wishes, Felix
